Most people seem to fall into two groups, those who are team shower and those who are team bath.
I’m all about that soak life and here are some of the amazing benefits you are missing out on when you choose a shower over a soak:
Soothe sore muscles
If you’ve overdone it on leg day or have a muscle cramp from not moving from a weekend long Netflix marathon then a warm bath is just what you need. Think of a warm bath as an allover heat pack that helps to relieve sore muscles by relaxing them & improving flexibility. Take your bath to the next level by adding in some bath salts that contain Epsom salt such as our Salty Bath Soaks. Epsom salt contains Magnesium which is absorbed through the skin when added to water to ease muscle tension, pain, and inflammation in joints.
Score some sleep
If you’re having trouble sleeping, try a bath before you go to bed. It works in two ways to encourage sleep, firstly it helps to relax your mind and body and secondly the drop in temperate makes us sleepy. When your body temperature drops at night, it signals the body to start producing melatonin which is the hormone that helps us fall asleep. You can kick-start the drop in temperature by having a warm bath, letting yourself cool down when you get out and then jumping in-between the sheets.
Soft & Smooth skin
When you soak in the bath, the warm water and steam help to open up the pores, leaving your skin clean, smooth & soft. Add in some hydrating bath products to leave your skin feeling even more hydrated but try to avoid bubble baths as they generally contain soap or detergents that can dry out the skin. Since the pores will be open, this is also the perfect time to pop on a face mask.
Reduce Stress & Anxiety
We’ve all heard the word ‘mindfulness’ bounced around lately but what exactly is it? Quite simply it’s focusing on the present moment and a bath is a perfect time to do this as the warm water will help you relax and make you feel safe. Light a candle, pop your phone on silent and leave it in another room and just focus on the now. Life is stressful and fast paced and we are constantly being bombarded with information so it’s more important than ever to take time out for yourself.
Reduce cold & flu symptoms
When you are feeling achy and stuffed up, there is nothing better in the world than a warm bath. The steam from the bath helps to clear out congestion and the warm water helps relieve sore and achy muscles. Add a couple of drops of immune boosting essential oil to your bath such as lavender, eucalyptus, lemon, rosemary, tea tree and thyme.
