Microneedling – everything you need to know
We’ve all seen those carousel posts on Instagram showing the incredible before and afters of microneedling, but I have to admit I really knew little about the treatment that intrigued me so. Microneedling or Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) as it is sometimes known, is a popular and highly effective skin treatment designed to resurface and rejuvenate the skin. I had a chat to salon suppliers The Global Beauty Group to find out more about this exciting technology.
What is microneedling: “Skin needling pens and other micro needling devices work by using small needles to puncture the skins barrier to create tiny micro wounds, triggering a healing response within the body. It is during the body’s regeneration process that the skin’s collagen production levels are boosted and the formation of new collagen is stimulated, resulting in smoother, firmer, younger-looking skin.”

Microneedling treatments are clinically proven to encourage skin rejuvenation, volumise and plump the complexion, strengthen the skin barrier, boost circulation and elasticity, as well as increase production levels of elastin and collagen within the skin. As the new collagen is produced and dispersed, wrinkles appear less deep, fine lines are reduced, pitted
skin fills in, texture irregularities become less noticeable, acne scars fade and stretch marks become smoother.
Who is this treatment for? “Suitable for almost all skin types, skin needling is an extremely versatile treatment as at it treats a myriad of skin conditions both on the face and body as well as improving the overall tone, texture of skin, skin needling is clinically proven to treat some of the most common signs and symptoms of ageing, not to mention as well as:
- Encourage skin repair and rejuvenation
- Smooth and refine skin texture and tone
- Reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
- Treat scars of the face and body (ie. acne scars)
- Help resurface and fade stretch marks
- Target hyperpigmentation or uneven skin tone
- Allow for greater absorption of skincare products by up to 90%
- Increase cellular turn-over, boost skin hydration levels and elasticity”

What does the treatment involve? “Unlike other skin rejuvenation treatments, microneedling results in minimal downtime for the patient. Your practitioner will topically numb the area to be treated with an anesthetic prior, making the treatment tolerable with minimal discomfort experienced. Treatments are quick, minimally invasive with clients
usually requiring 3-6 treatments, depending on the client’s individual needs. Post treatment, your skin will appear red for the first couple of hours, almost like a mild sunburn. This will start to dissipate within a few hours, with only a mild redness remaining the following day. Fresher, brighter, more youthful looking skin will start to appear within 4-6 weeks.“
