Skincare Power Duos

Just like margaritas and tacos on Thursday evening, some things go together just perfectly. But when it comes to skincare, it's not always as easy as ordering food at your favourite restaurant. I recently spoke with Teddy Bell, Head of Retail at Grown Alchemist to discuss all things skincare power duos.

Hi Teddy, what ingredients play well together in skincare, and how best are they applied if in separate products?

Hyaluronic Acid is the key benefit being moisture retention, and is a great ‘foundation’ ingredient used with any other skincare as it needs a ‘buddy’ for the best effect.

What ingredients should we never mix, and must be applied at separate times of the day?

Grown Alchemist uses plant-based ingredients which are all biocompatible with each other. For us, there 'are no rules' with our products – everything can be mixed with everything. Peptides are the building block of collagen and elastin which are the fibers which keep our skin plump. When looking to plump skin, look for peptide-rich products at night while our cells are regenerating e.g. our Age-Repair Gel Masque (just as a treatment -don’t leave on all night), Regenerating Night Cream and our Sleep Masque.

How can we maximize the benefits of ingredients that play well together?

Our best advice is to start to remove the toxins from your skincare. Toxins compete for the body's energy and focus, which means we aren’t getting the best benefit from the ‘good ingredients’. We recommend to use plant-based, GA, toxic-free skincare wherever possible.

What is the general rule for applying skincare each day - is it still Vitamin C and sunscreen during the day and Vitamin E at night?

Morning: Sunscreen is key, UV rays exist both outside and inside (inside being ambient light through windows + our screen emitted blue light). Vitamin E (Tocopherol) is an amazing skin protecting ingredient. Definitely, a key skin ingredient and is widely used in Grown Alchemist products.
Evening: Single /Double cleansing – it is VITAL for good skin.

Here's to good skin year round,
