A Day in The Life of Be Fraiche Skincare’s Founder, Helen Dao

Helen is a qualified skincare formulator, trained the in the UK and France in Organic Skincare Formulation and Perfumery. She is the founder and formulator of Be Fraiche Skincare, a Sydney-based skincare company that provides high-quality natural products and hands-on and fun workshops. Helen’s skincare journey started with her skin type.

Having sensitive combination skin made it impossible for her to find a suitable product that could balance different skin types on her face, Helen decided to take matters with into her own hands and created her own skincare. Her aim was to create a well-formulated natural skincare range that’s effective, non-irritating, and smells divine.

Helen’s passion is to share her knowledge and empower everyday people to choose the right products for themselves. Helen leads “Make Your Own Skincare” workshops series on a monthly basis in Sydney.

7.00 AM: My weekdays usually start at 7.00 am. The first thing I do after waking up is to get myself ready for the day: exercise. I start the day with a warm cup of lemon water to help cleanse my digestive system and warm my body up. I then go for my morning run for about 45 minutes to 1 hour. I run 3-4 days a week and swim one day in between. Since I started working from home I didn’t get to commute as much as I did in my corporate job, hence, the morning exercise is a must for me to keep my body active and my mind clear. On rainy days, I go for a swim or yoga instead. I love the feeling of running through the park, hearing the birds chirping and inhaling the fresh and clean morning air.

8.00 AM: I’m back home, see my husband off for work, take shower, then prepare breakfast for myself. It’s either smoothie or oat porridge with fruits and berries. These kinds of breakfast give me the right energy to tackle work until lunch.

9.00 AM: I start work by getting through emails with suppliers, manufacturers, and team. My VA is working remotely to help clearing all the admin tasks, orders, and ingredients replenishment. On the days that I dedicate to formulating, admin tasks will have to wait until lunch. I found I get more things done if I focus on one thing at a time than multi-tasking. Hence, formulation days will be all about formulating, researching, and testing the ingredients.

12.30 – 2.00 PM: Lunch time. I usually take this chance to post orders and check my PO box. I love to be outside for lunch, to get some fresh air, or sometimes do a quick grocery shopping if I spot some fresh fruits or veggies that we didn’t get to buy on the weekend. Those freshly bought ingredients will be in our dinner on the same day. I catch up with my friends for lunch every time I have meetings in the city or go to a business event there. I love the flexibility of working for myself, I have the freedom and the work is so satisfying and interesting.

2.00 PM: In the afternoon, I work on more creative tasks, like writing blog posts, designing new product labels, planning my social media or updating marketing materials. On formulation days, I’ll be mixing and blending plant oils, waxes, floral water, actives, and so on into nourishing skinfood; or creating our fragrance blends with pure essential oils. My lab often smells like a flower field every time I create a new fragrance. I usually dedicate 2-3 formulation days in a row so that I can create multiple batches and variations at the same time. Then I’ll stop for a week or two to observe and test the samples, then pick the best one to work on the next round. In skincare, you won’t see the results immediately, you need to test, observe, test, test, and test again until perfection. I guess patience is definitely a significant virtue for anyone who wants to follow this career path. Don’t worry if you’re an impatient person (as I used to be), this career will train you well.

6.00 PM: Work will be done by now and I’m about to prepare dinner. After diner, I write down my task list and prioritise the tasks for tomorrow.

Once a month, I hold “Make Your Own Skincare” workshops at our cosy workshop space in Bondi Junction. So on that day, we pack up for workshops early and arrive there at 9.30am to set up. Our lovely students will arrive soon and we’ll start the workshop at 10.30am. I normally spend the first hour to show everyone product samples, tools & equipment, and walk them through the ingredients and theories. We’ll take a short break for morning tea so we can get ready for the next session: making skincare.

After the break, I do a step-by-step demonstration then guide everyone through the formula. We usually have a lot of fun making skincare yet we look quite serious in photos as everyone has to get the measurements and the steps right. Our workshop will conclude with a big applause to congratulate everyone on creating their beautiful skincare products!

A Day in the Life of Fiona Tuck, Skin & Nutrition Expert

Fiona Tuck is a Skincare Expert, accredited Nutritional Medicine Practitioner and a member of the Australian Traditional Medicine Society.

Fiona’s in-depth knowledge and insight into future trends within the health industry has made her a sought-after media expert. Fiona is available to comment or present on a variety of topics regarding health and wellness including, but not limited to: Nutrition, Health and Wellness Trends, Food Labelling, Complementary Therapies, Brain, Gut, Metabolic Syndrome, Cardiovascular Disease, Ageing, Menopause, Inflammation, Arthritis, Diabetes, Obesity, Mental Health, Eating Disorders, Diet, Weight Loss, Exercise, Body & Mind Wellness, Aesthetic Medicine, Skincare Ingredients.

Fiona is also the director of skincare range Skinstitut.

    Headshot 2 Each day is so varied as I work across multiple businesses in wellness and skincare but a typical day goes like this;

Mornings. I wake up and have coffee in bed. I enjoy one good coffee a day and nothing gets done until I have my first sip. Check news, social posts and diary for the day. Next is either a good long brisk walk or a yoga class. If I have time, I do both! I like to exercise first thing so that if my day gets really busy I know that I have already done my work out for the day. Each day is different as my work is varied, I could be in a brand consulting meeting, meeting with packaging designers, taste testings for a new organic anti ageing supplement I am working on,  at a Skinstitut board meeting, at a media event or meeting with my book publisher for my new book The Forensic Nutritionist, to be launched 2017.

Lunch. Many of my friends are self employed, so we often use lunch time to catch up and try out the healthy cafes in Sydney. I am also a big networker and believe in supporting others within the industry. Lunchtime meeting are a great way to do this.

Afternoon. I don’t do any physical skin treatments anymore due to my busy schedule but I do still do nutritional and skincare consults for my clients. I believe good skin starts from the inside out so no matter how well you take care of your skin on the outside you also need to take care of the inside. I use holistic diagnostic techniques such as analysing the skin, fingernails, body shape and hair alongside traditional pathology testing to gain a good understanding of what may be going on with my clients. The skin is a direct reflection of what is going on inside the body so when you combine the right nutrients with the right topical skincare amazing results can be achieved. My clients have had wonderful results from following the acne and clear skin diet ebook.

Late afternoon. Emails, responding to media Q&A’s, writing for and media articles. I like to write about topical information that is non biased, user friendly diet fact sheets, nutrition plans, healthy skin guides, and healthy recipes for my clients and followers to use to support their homecare regimes. All of the current information on my website is free to download in the hope that it will help and inspire others.

Evening. Dinner usually consists of a light protein such as salmon with lots of veggies or bone broth based soups often with a cup of tea and a healthy treat like a bliss ball as an evening snack.

After dinner. I like to do a gentle yoga/meditation at home most evenings if I am not going out. Having a busy lifestyle means that I can get anxious quite easily and when I get stressed carbs can be  my go to comfort. Yoga is my carb craving stress buster and makes me feel connected, enlighted and euphoric. I am currently near the end of completing a 500hr yoga teaching certificate and so evenings are a good time to practice my class sequencing. I am about to go on a 7 day yoga retreat in Bali to teach others about how to reduce stress levels and balance hormones but it is also a wonderful time for me to take some time out too.  I plan to run regular short weekend retreats next year in Sydney to encompass nutritional cleanses, skin therapy, mediation and yoga.

Clarisonic v Foreo | The Battle

*This post may contain affiliate links for which I receive a commission at no extra cost to you, which assists to support and maintain my freelance writing and this website.

Until late 2016, I really thought the Clarisonic was the be all and end all of at-home daily skin care treatments. I adored my Clarisonic Mia 2. Then I meet the newest IT girl LUNA.

    Foreo Luna

Simply said, the LUNA is the next generation Clarisonic and I’ll explain why.

The LUNA and LUNA Mini are ‘innovative skincare devices that delivers deep-cleansing via T-Sonic™ technology and anti-aging through lower-frequency pulsations. The LUNA and LUNA Mini are available in 3 models tailored to cater to specific skin types; Sensitive / Normal, Combination and Ultra Sensitive’.

I was very kindly given the opportunity to purchase a LUNA Mini at a reduced price, which I accepted as I was interested to compare the LUNA’s features against my beloved Clarisonic. I had always loved how soft and clean my skin felt after I had used my Clary and really felt it was a revolutionary skincare device. Now the newbies are on the block and here to stay with some really amazing features, which I believe beat the Clarisonic in the race to your-best-skin-ever…

    Features such as;

    – Both LUNA devices have two surface, with the LUNA being the full size facial cleaning device with both a cleaning surface and an additional anti aging surface. The LUNA Mini is slightly smaller with a cleaning brush surface and a deep cleaning surface.

    – The LUNA and LUNA Mini claim to unclog pores of 99.5% of dirt and oil, and 98.5% of makeup residue on the face whilst still being gentle enough for every day use along with your regular cleansing product,

    – The LUNAs have a much more face- friendly shape and size that really adheres around all the contours of the face

    – with each electronic charge of the waterproof LUNA lasting approx. 300 uses and the best part is,

    – the silicone outer is non-porous and resists bacteria buildup and never needs replacing! Say goodbye to constant replacement of brush heads ala the Clarisonic!

Having the LUNA Mini move freely and clean all around the contours and grooves of my face, including the notoriously tricky around-the-nose area, along with the dirt-free silicone surfaces really sell the product to me and it has now become a staple in my bathroom cabinet. EMILY + LUNA = NEW BFF!

For those who are a little new to the facial skincare device range, you can find further information on the LUNA website and if you jump on right now, you’ll find free shipping Australia wide!

The LUNA retails at $197.10AUD and LUNA Mini at $134.10AUD (as at 6.2.17), which again, is great value due to the fact it’s just one outright purchase with no additional pieces to purchase on a regular basis. The LUNA comes in 3 colours, with the LUNA Mini in 5 including Cool Grey and Magenta – so no matter the style of your bathroom, you’ll find the perfect shade. Just recently Foreo has launched the LUNA 2, which I’ve read is EVEN  BETTER STILL!

    1) 10% off sitewide + GWP LUNA Play Mint, with purchase $199+ – Valid until 2/7 Code: FOREOVD17
    2) 10% off sitewide + GWP Duo 60ml Cleansers, with purchase $99+ – Valid until 2/7 Code: FOREOVDAY17

    Sukin Skincare Review

    I love trying new products and when the oppurtunity to trial products from a skincare range I’ve already eperienced great results with, it’s icing on the already yummy cake. Sukin is a brand that has long lingered in my beauty cabinet in the form of night creams, cleansers and masques and why you ask? Well, a quote from their website says it all;

Sukin products do not contain a myriad of harsh chemicals used in many products on the market today including sodium lauryl sulphate, sodium laureth sulphate, synthetic fragrances, animal derivatives, harsh detergents, propylene glycol, artificial colours, triethanolamine, mineral oils, EDTA or parabens. Sukin maintain a strong stance on the environment and sustainability and have been certified as 100% Carbon Neutral, Cruelty Free, and Vegan for many years now, with all formulations being biodegradable and grey water safe in addition.

    [ image: ]

So with that, I’ll get straight into my review of a handful of Sukin goodies!

    Purifying Facial Masque

A clay mask combined with rose hip oil and aloe vera for just $12.76 AUD online – say what? I use this mask in between my hydrating facial masks, mainly on my t-zone as that’s my problem area, and breakouts + imperfections be gone! Oh and if you’re a glasses wearer who suffers from occasional blemishes on the bridge of your nose like me, my hot tip is to use this weekly to prevent any further from appearing ….

    Moisture Restoring Night Cream

I go between this night cream and various other ones so often, but this is always the one I will pick up at the chemist or Priceline store. I have such dry skin and often need to mix night creams with an oil to give me the needed hydration, but this one works so good for my skin just on it’s own, thanks to the inclusion of rose hip, evening primrose and borage oils!

    Oil Balancing Pore Refining Scrub

Charcoal is all the rage right now and with so many benefits, it’s no surprise why. I’ve used a charcoal + tumeric toothpaste, a charcoal based face mask and now, a facial scrub. The mix of charcoal, jojoba beads and moringa extract, exfoliate the skin and clear pores of any dirt + impurities. I use this every second night on my slightly reactive skin – breakouts are at bay!

    Energising Body Scrub

If you find the popular coffee body scrubs harsh on your sensitive skin, I suggest you give this gem a try. As soon as I opened the jar, the jaffa-like chocolatey scent filled my bathroom and without aggressive scrubbing, gave my skin a hydrated smooth feel and even the husband noticed! The coffee extracts and coconut shell combination, along with the coconut + jojoba oils are to thank for this #sukinscore.

    Oil Balancing Clarifying Facial Tonic

Compared to a regular toner, this facial toner really packs a punch! Giving skin the post-cleanse balance + refinement it needs, thanks to ingredients such as white tea extract, coconut extract in addition to chamomile, aloe vera and cucumber – this product is especially great for those with skin on the oilier side.

What’s your pick of the Sukin range, are they responsible for your HG beauty product? Share with me in the comments!

    Winter Tanning Advice

Guest Post | Winter Tanning Q&A with Tannè By Meegan | Organic Mobile Tanner

Because it’s cold and no one feels like leaving the house, winter tanning can feel oh-so hard. But it can give you such a hit of confidence that makes heading out on those chilly nights so much easier and sexier! Besides, you only need a jacket to get inside of where you’re going to…

Professional tanner Meegan is here to chat with us about tanning during the cooler months and read on for a special tanning offer!

    Winter Tans3

Hi Meegan! Tell us, why do your clients get a winter tan?

Getting a spray tan is a great way to satisfy your craving for a sun-kissed glow during the bleakest of winter days.

Winter is the ideal time for a subtle golden glow and perfect for a that winter special occasion outfit that shows a bit more skin than the usual North Face jacket and scarf – I’m sure you know what I mean!

By indulging in a winter tan, you can love the way you look all year long. Just by adding a subtle hint of colour to your skin can be just what you need to boost your confidence and give your winter wardrobe or winter special occasion a radiant face lift.

Okay Meegan, Summer v Winter tanning shades?

You definitely need to adjust your summer colour shade to a few shades lighter.

Try to match a shade that suits your natural skin colour and aim to just darken the ‘white glow’ off. Tannè By Meegan uses the VANi-T product range, which is a beautiful natural organic product and can be customised to any skin colour.

What about tanning dehydrated winter skin though?

Maintaining a natural-looking tan during the colder months is easier than you think. Since you would be working with lighter colour palettes, you can stop worrying about uneven fading which could be more noticeable in summer. Because you need to exfoliate and moisturise to get even coverage, spray tanning in the winter with a refined organic tan can actually make it easier to keep your skin healthy and hydrated!

    Winter Tans2

    Tanning tips for any occasion

    * Everyone knows it is a cardinal sin not exfoliate in the lead up to your spray tan but I also recommend that you enjoy your manicure and pedicure in the days preceding your tan – you don’t want to soak off your newly applied colour!
    * When using the Vani-T Rapid Self Tan you can shower in as little as two hours and be on your merry way with the perfect sunkissed glow.

    * Messy spray tanned sheets are now a thing of the past!

    * If your spray tan is for a special occasion, like a wedding, then make sure you do a test run at least a month out to make sure you’re happy with the shade. Book in 48 hours before the event as a rapid tan takes 24 hours for the colour to fully develop.

    * Put on a white singlet 48 hours later and see your colour against the white – and naturally, a selfie is required.

    New | My Current Skincare

*This post may contain affiliate links for which I receive a commission at no extra cost to you, which assists to support and maintain my freelance writing and this website.

Skincare has always been a passion of mine and lately, I have had so many new toys to play with – it’s crazy fun! With some new releases I’ve been trialling and also some new favourites, I thought I would share what I have been using on this ol’ face of mine!

With the cold weather severely upon us in Tasmania, I’m back to using ever-faithful Cetaphil cleanser. With its water based, soap-free + safe-for-sensitive-skin formula, it’s a firm bathroom staple!

I dabble between using Obagi’s Nu-Derm Toner (when I remember!) but more often that not, I have been using asap Super B Complex of an evening, between cleansing and moisturising for a boost of hydration and its fab brightening properties!

Right now, I am absolutely lovin’ Philosophy’s ultimate miracle worker day spf 15, and why? Simply put ‘it’s the first moisturizer to target uva, uvb, infrared and visible light for more firm, dense and radiant skin’. Even with the spf factor, it’s non-greasy and leaves me feeling fresh + hydrated all day, without a hint of dryness or tightness.

Currently I’m using Philosophy’s ultimate miracle worker night, which is a luxurious pinky/white cream which is infused with the prettiest mix-in pearls and leaves me feeling #flawless and refreshed each morning. If it’s extra cold and I’m feeling drier than normal, I add a little At One Skincare’s Night Repair Serum, with its lavender-esque scent, a little goes a long way but is easily absorbed so no sticky pillow situations had!

I am alternating between Arbonne’s RE9 Advanced Lifting and Contouring Eye Cream of an evening and Philosophy’s ultimate miracle worker eye spf 15 each morning. Eye cream is one of those products I often forget to apply daily but when religiously applied, makes all the difference. Hot tip: Always remember to tap and not drag eye cream around the sensitive eye area.

I’m still faithfully and lovingly using One Love Organics Microderma Scrub and Mask, which I’ve mentioned a few times now but when I’m extra scaly and reptile-like, it’s time for Frank Body!

Absolutely lovin’ both Dermalogica’s Charcoal Rescue Mask and Sukin’s Detoxifying Clay Face Mask. I use one of these once a week or so, with Dermalogica as my go-to on the regular and Sukin’s probably once a fortnight – face masks are the perfect mid week pick-me-up!

What skincare are you currently using? Are you using any of the ones I’ve mentioned above?

Let me know in the comments and make sure you mention your HG products!

Skincare is my thing. Every evening I go through my whole skin routine but it’s never a chore as it’s my time. It’s a time for me to light a candle, relax, scrub away the day and prepare for a night of beauty sleep. I have incorporated several new products over the last few months and thought today would be a good chance to share my 5 most used skincare products!

    2015 Favourites

    1. A touch of primer over the top gives a fantastic base for makeup application.

    Protect Your Skin Against Summer

This is a very personal post and not just about me.

About ten years ago, my darling mother was diagnosed with melanoma in her lower leg and after quick surgical removal, was left in a hospital bed with her leg elevated for a week.

MumLuckily, she has made a full recovery but not before a skin graft was rejected by her body and has been left with a sizable golf ball hole in her leg but, more importantly cancer free.

My parents have always drilled into my brother and I the importance of sun protection and I remember being the only girl at the beach or pool in a rashvest with snow white skin covered in copious amounts of sunscreen whilst other girls frolicked in bikinis with their beautiful bronzed skin. Now, who knows? Maybe due to my parents constant insistence of sun protection, I may just avoid my mothers agony and worry of what her skin diagnosis meant.

My family now attend regular skin solar scans where a doctor looks for irregular or odd looking moles that may possibly be dangerous and I already have a few spots that a doctor has suggested I could remove as a caution. Just last week I had my first mole removed that did turn out to be nothing of concern but it just reminded me how important it is to spread the word on looking after your skin for life.

So how can we protect our skin best? By using SPF15 + or higher sunscreen when outside along with sun protective clothing, so think rash vests / broad brimmed hats and sunglasses.

The Cancer Council of Australia states ‘the SPF (Sun Protection Factor) of a sunscreen is a measure of how well it protects the skin from sunburn. Sunscreens need to be applied liberally to achieve the SPF protection claimed on the label. Broad-spectrum sunscreens filter both UVA and UVB rays. UVB is the principal cause of sunburn, but both UVA and UVB contribute to increased skin cancer risk’.

For the best protection against premature skin concerns, The Cancer Council of Australia advises to wear broad spectrum and water-resistant sunscreen whilst out in the sun. Ensure protection is applied at least 20 minutes before stepping outside and reapply every two hours.

One new product that I have been introduced to, which is also a brand I adore, is Alpha-H Protection Plus Daily SPF50+. This day cream is a broad spectrum moisturiser that protects against both UVA and UVB rays, whilst being non-greasy and non-whitening. Containing Pomegranate to help fight against environmental aggressors and including Pycnogenol to prevent photo aging – talk about a multi tasker!

For further information on skin damage and/or cancer protection, be sure to visit your local countries Cancer Council website for the most accurate and up-to-date material. If you have a question around sunsafe cosmetics, shoot me an email at and if I don’t know the answer, I’ll find out for you!

With summer so close for us Australian’s, we are all looking to get our summer bronze on. Even if you live elsewhere, a bronzed glow is a much-coveted look so if you are looking for a new tanning product or just some different tanning ideas, be sure to read on!

If you’re new to DIY bronzing, ensure you read the below tips before any products hit your skin.

Be sure to always apply fake tan to clean, dry skin that has been shaved around 12-24 hours earlier or at least that morning. Otherwise, it can result in a rash or reaction in some cases. Also, keep hydrated whilst bottle bronzed by applying moisturizer daily and don’t forget your sunscreen all year around!

Now, it’s product time. No matter what skin you have or what shade you desire, this list has you covered with links for each product mentioned. Online shopping/ instore shopping, here you come!

For a flawless fake tan regardless of the product used, be sure to use an application mitt. Streaks be gone and blemishes be vanished!

Classic DIY tanning but best for the advanced tanners, due to the consistency.

Easy to manover around the body and great to reach hard-to-reach areas!

Thicker than a liquid so no drips marks to be seen!

For those spontaneous nights out and a quick tan is required, apply this and within minutes, off you can go!

Why You Need Rosehip Oil in Your Skincare Routine

Everyone knows and loves Rosehip Oil and it’s really no surprise. Rosehip Oil offers benefits such as reducing the appearance of stretchmarks and scars, improving skin hydration and/or dry skin, minimizing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, promoting the healing of sun damaged skin and reduction the appearance of skin pigmentation all whilst promoting silky and soft skin texture. Phew – a multi -tasking product fo’ sure!

My pick of the bunch right now is Rosehip Plus, who stock  several size different jars of Rosehip Oil in a 30ml, 50ml and additionally a 15ml roll on, perfect for specific areas of concerns i.e scars.

‘Our Rosehip Oil is an all-natural, organic and cold pressed seed oil rich in phytochemicals and nutrients that help to moisturize, protect and strengthen the skin. Rosehip Oil is rich in Vitamin A (Retinol) and Vitamin C, essential fatty acids Omega-3, 6 & 9 as well as Lycopene and Beta-Carotene.’

    Rosehip OIil

I have been using this oil for about a month now, in various ways. Any time my skin feels that it’s heading towards the drier side, I mix in a little oil with my day/night cream for a hydration boost. I’ve used it to smooth down my freshly washed flyaway locks and just yesterday I used the oil as a shaving cream, which left my legs silky smooth without the need to apply a moisturiser afterwards!

I’m finding this a very light oil but really packs a punch, with the skin feeling velvety smooth without feeling sticky or tacky which is really common with facial oils, there’s a very fine line. Try using a clarifying mask one evening then smooth over this oil, the next morning you’ll thank me – promise!

I’ve also read online that you can use Rosehip Oil to treat eczema, dermatitis and even as a cuticle oil to strengthen and hydrate nails so that’s next on my list to trial!

Do you use Rosehip Oil in your daily skincare routine?

    Lusting Over Jurlique Skincare

*This post may contain affiliate links for which I receive a commission at no extra cost to you, which assists to support and maintain my freelance writing and this website.

When I think of Australian skincare, my first thought is Jurlique. I remember reading Cosmopolitan magazine years back when Teresa Palmer was an ambassador and being just in awe of the simple yet glamorous packaging that was Jurlique.

Nowadays my heart is lusting over the Limited Edition Rosewater Balancing Mist. The facial spritz is the definite showstopper of the range, with its stunning pink packaging that encloses luxurious rose extracts to revitalize and balance your skin and of course, that must sit front and centre in your bathroom! I’ve also noticed a just-as-beautiful Limited Edition Precious Rose Hand Cream is now available online, which worries me as now my wishlist is getting quite long….

Lusting now aside, I have been using the Jurlique Herbal Recovery Antioxidant Cleansing Mousse daily in the shower for a quick yet efficient morning cleanse. It’s silky foam texture is non-drying and leaves my skin feeling fresh and ready for makeup application. Although my skin is on the drier side, especially in the cooler months, and doesn’t always react well to foaming cleansers, I’ve not noticed any of the drying out that has occurred with different cleansers in the past. It also has makeup removing properties so if you’re looking for a cleanser that you can use both AM & PM – you’re in luck!

Who knows, maybe my next Jurlique blog post will be a review of the Limited Edition Rosewater Balancing Mist as a special Christmas present – ahhhh fingers and toes crossed!

Update | Foreo LUNA & Special Offer

*This post may contain affiliate links for which I receive a commission at no extra cost to you, which assists to support and maintain my freelance writing and this website.

Happy Hump Day all!  Today’s post is an update on my skin after an extended period of time using Foreo LUNA Mini.

If you’ve read my post on my initial impressions of Foreo LUNA, you’d know I was a huge fan of the new vibrating facial cleaner LUNA. With two sizes to choose from (I have the Mini) and endless benefits as listed in my Foreo LUNA v The Clarisonic blog post, it’s an absolute bathroom staple.

I have found the pesky dry spots around my chin and nose area have diminished and only reoccur if I forget (get lazy) to use the LUNA Mini for a few days! Moisturiser absorbs into my skin faster and more readily than if I was to simply cleanse with a cleanser which for a big makeup wearer, is a huge plus. When moisturiser fails to absorb into and sits on the skin, it’s never a good look…..

If you wish to try out the LUNA for yourself, then you’re in luck because….. I have a special offer of course! You can score 10% of a LUNA purchase with FREE SHIPPING from 26/08/15 – 16/09/15 by simply entering the code WHYHELLO on checkout. For my US readers, the code runs from 8/26/15 – 9/16/15.

Be sure to tag me in your posts if you pick one up, I’d love to know your feedback too!

What’s In My Shower Right Now?

*This post may contain affiliate links for which I receive a commission at no extra cost to you, which assists to support and maintain my freelance writing and this website.

Because I love the videos on youtube that show what people actually use on their hair and skin, I thought I would share what is currently in my shower right now. Please share with me what you are using too, I’d love new product finds!

    Sukin Revitalising Facial Scrub

Affordable, cheap and gentle on the skin, it’s been in my shower for months now – my man swears by this for his dry skin.

    ~Burts Bees Sensitive Facial Cleanser

This gives the skin such a silky smooth feel, I use it each morning whilst washing my hair.

    The Bakery Sugar Lip Scrub

I picked this up in Thailand a few months back at a gorgeous little beauty shop for about $6 simply because it was so cheap and cute!

Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Wild Ginger Moistursing Lather Shampoo & Keratin Cream Rinse

My everyday shampoo and conditioner that smells like an expensive liqueur and gives my bathroom a gorgeous scent!

Catwalk Fashionista Brunette Shampoo & Catwalk Fashionista Brunette Conditioner
When I feel my hair is lacking shine and depth, I apply this shampoo for about 5-10 minutes (depending what time of the morning it is….) and step out with refreshed glossy locks!

    Sephora Detangling Comb

I purchased this comb with a recent Sephora order with ShopandBox and I rave about it. No pulling, tearing or hurting hair with a comb this big!

~ It may sound odd but I often splurge on soap for the shower, I feel it’s such a luxury and makes me feel so special. I pay around $22.95 in store for the MOR Lychee Flower Triple Milled Soap but it’s a vice I completely believe is worth the price <3 Plus an added benefit is,it smells ridiculously amazing!

What are you using in your shower right now? Have you got a staple shower product that you wont ever stop using?

    Have a beautiful week all

Say Bye-Bye to Wrinkles with Wrinkles Schminkles

Wrinkles Schminkles is a product that promises to dramatically reduce the appearance of wrinkles, simple by wearing a silicone pad on either the bust area or areas on the face. For someone with years of not wearing her glasses as a child and now paying for it, I had to know more.

I have been trialling the silicone pads for around a week now, around my crow’s feet and I swear to you, this skin has never been so freaking soft! It’s amazing really, how the pads actually stick to the skin and produce this effect. I was sceptical to begin with as I couldn’t get the pads to adhere but once I had trimmed the silicone with scissors to my skin shape, I was hooked! I wear mine for an hour a night each night and I have even feel asleep in them once, the instructions state the longer you wear them the better so score right?!

I invited the creator of Wrinkles Schminkles to share with us how and why she created this dream product for so many woman out there, just see below!

    mouth_v4Gabrielle, what is Wrinkles Schminkles?

Wrinkles Schminkles is a range of 100% Medical Grade reusable silicone pads designed specifically to treat décolletage wrinkles, forehead and eye, mouth and neck wrinkles.

We manufacture them ourselves using a proprietary technology and with Chemists’ who have experience making medical devices. So while the brand is a light hearted beauty treatment brand, the science that sits behind the product is compelling and so are the results.

We are also a brand that believes in ageing gracefully and not making ourselves feel bad about the little line here or wrinkles there and instead using simple products like Wrinkles Schminkles Silicone Pads to easily and affordably treat wrinkles so you feel confident about yourself and have a great day, every day!

How does placing a silicone pad on the skin actually produce these results I am seeing?

You might know silicone has been used to treat scarring in the medical profession for sometime as its scientifically proven to create hydration, moisture and stimulate collagen. We are using the same science to target those pesky, difficult to treat chest wrinkles and other wrinkles!

The ‘beauty’ of our products is there are very few beauty treatment products that you get a result the very first night you use them. With our Silicone Pads, the first morning you will see a result as the skin has been kept tight and unable to crease. Then as you continue to use the Silicone Pads over time, you are enabling the proven healing properties of the medical grade silicone to actually treat and correct the skin through the creation of hydration, moisture and collagen stimulation.

How can we buy Wrinkles Schminkles Gabrielle? Do salons/ spas stock your product?

You can buy the whole range directly online at or at selected salons, clinics and edispas. We can be contacted for your nearest stockiest.

What has been your greatest achievement to date?

chest_reshapedCreating the brand and launching the range has been a HUGE achievement. You cannot begin to imagine the amount of prototyping and consumer testing that we have undergone to create the perfect Silicone Pad!

Every time I get an email from a customer explaining how the range has given them confidence to wear certain clothes again or feel confident makes it all worthwhile.

Any future plans for Wrinkles Schminkles?

Yes! We have some new products coming out later this year to treat different parts of the body such as the hands! We are also working hard to make the products available in more salons and clinics so we are constantly looking for new stockists…do let us know if you’d like to see us stocked in your favourite salon! If you are an interested stockist, please email to chat further.

Connect with Gabrielle on facebook | instagram | website or by the email above.

Thanks for taking a few minutes out with Why Hello Beauty Gabrielle – I can’t wait to hear more about your new hand product so if you need a hand model, you know where to find me!

Keep Your Facial Glow For Longer

I’ve invited beauty expert Lenita Cundari to share with us today how to really maximise results from a salon facial, to keep that oh-so-fresh vibrant glow to your skin and ensure that your hard earned cashola lasts as long as possible between salon visits. Lenita is a very talented beauty therapist who certainly knows her industry and oh,  if you want #bossbrows – Lenita has you covered! All you need to know is placed below..

    • Skin treatments should be 4-6 weeks apart or closer together if dealing with severe skin concerns like acne.
    • Home care is key, be sure to invest in reputable skincare to enhance salon results.
    • Exfoliation is key to bright, smooth and ageless skin. Try to exfoliate 2-3 times a week for best results.
    • Cleanse daily, morning and night and if you’re wearing makeup, double cleanse of an evening to remove all dirt and grime.
    • Apply moisturizer both AM and PM to rebalance skin and keep it hydrated even if you’re oily… trust me!
    • Invest in an eye cream from the age of 25+ – you’ll thank me in your later years. This skin is delicate & needs some extra TLC to prevent damage (think thinning and wrinkling).
    • Applying a weekly mask as a booster treatment will enhance your home results and give you some much needed time out, even if it is only just a quick ten minutes!
    • Serums are heaven sent. They are an extremely concentrated dose of active ingredients. Try not to get put off the slightly higher price point and remember you are investing in yourself. Serums also allow deeper penetration of your moisturiser and you will find you can use less product so both will last longer. They are also great at strengthening and hydrating the skin.
    • Mix up your skincare routine seasonally. Your skin had different needs in winter to summer, therefore you should not be using the same products all year round. You should also avoid using the same products from your 20’s in your 30’s.
    • Be mindful of your diet. Try to reduce your intake of saturated fats, oils and dairy products. Aim to increase meals including meat, fish, nuts and green veggies, especially if you’re prone to hormonal breakouts.
    • Drink lots of water to flush out toxins, this really makes a difference to your skin!
    • Change your pillow case regularly to prevent bacteria build up and disinfect your phone cover regularly.
    • Follow the routine of a skin therapist you trust as their skin knowledge is so valuable. They are trained in diagnosing skin and should be adding things to your home routine to maintain and enhance your results. If they are not recommending products, then they’re not doing their job. You are going to them for a specific result and it’s important you have the right tools to enhance and maintain this between treatments.

Remember: Strong skin is healthy skin.

    * psst – Lenita’s signature facial includes a heavenly face, neck, shoulder, scalp and arm massage …. sounds simply sublime right?

    The Importance of Quality Skincare

Quality skincare and lovingly after your skin will ensure you have healthy skin for life. I believe that to have a flawless makeup finish, you need to start with a fresh, clean canvas.

I have tried so many ranges of skincare and I believe the base of great skin starts with a cleanser. Foaming cleansers are good for those with oily skin but try to avoid cleansers that dry out your skin and leave it feeling tight. My pick is the Arbonne re9 Cleanser which is great for removing makeup, cleaning thoroughly without removing all your precious facial oils that are needed to balance your skin out.

Always ensure your toner doesn’t have alcohol as an ingredients as alcohol dries out the skins ph level and strips the natural oils which can leave your skin tight and itchy. Facial mists can be quite nice and leave a pleasant lingering scent. Try Avene’s Thermal Spring Water for an unscented facial spray which can also double as a makeup setting spray!

A moisturiser is a key step in skincare and a very friendly reminder to always use SPF. If you don’t like to use a moisturiser with SPF included, use a separate sunscreen underneath. The sun is so damaging to our skin and is the cause of so many wrinkles, sunspots and not to mention the dangers of skin cancer. My mum had skin cancer a few years back and luckily recovered fully but I now preach to everyone to please look after their skin, you only have one body! SPF 50+ is best but 15+ is sufficent, especially when your makeup has SPF as well.

Night creams are a luscious indulgence and renew the skin overnight, especially when combined with a mask or scrub a few times a week. A facial oil in place of night cream can work for those with drier skin or who are looking for a switch up. Josie Maran has a great facial oil which I have purchased from Sephora in the past and is reasonably priced.

Hot water in your shower or bath can deplete your skin of moisture so always try to keep the temperature luke-warm and moisturise after jumping out to replace that softness. I have tried the Nivea In Shower Body Moistuiser and that is great for those who are time-poor, plus it really does work!

Hair Tip: Always try to finish your shower with a cold blast of water which will close the hair cuticle that you have just opened and moisturised. It will provide a smoother, glossier shine that you will love!
