Today on Why Hello Beauty we’re talking to Husskie founder and editor Yelena Fairfax. Launching in November 2016, www.husskie.com is a lifestyle news website that gives readers a glimpse into the lives, wardrobes, career secrets, and beauty cupboards of top influencers. It takes a look at what life is like behind the camera (or iPhone).

With a career in lifestyle publishing for 15 years, we figure Yelena has a pretty impressive beauty cabinet! Here we track her down to talk about just what can be found inside…

Yelena can be found on Instagram at @Husskie_ and @TheBraidedLena.

“Being an Editor in the beauty realm for the past seven years, I’ve been lucky enough to have access to a vast range of products. Only problem is, with so many amazing products continually being launched each month, it can be hard choosing which ones to keep on repeat. The ones that tend to get the biggest workout are those with maximum effectiveness but minimal application – if it requires just a quick dab or smear, I’m in every time!

Despite a desire to keep my beauty regime quite streamlined, I do seem to have quite a lot of products in my everyday arsenal. To break it down, I’ve rummaged through my cabinets to pull together a list of the makeup, fragrance, skin, and hair products I use on the reg so as to give you the no-holds-bar version of what I use.”

MAKEUP
Primer:
I use one of three primers: these are Laura Geller Spackle Broad Spectrum SPF30 Protective under make-up primer, DMK Créme Glacé, and MAC Strobe Cream. The DMK one is great as it lasts all day, MAC is fab for a little booster glow when you’re tired, and Laura Geller is my everyday.

Foundation: I have different phases with my foundation, but I’m currently a little obsessed with Paula’s Choice Best Face Forward Foundation. It lasts all day and gives a natural coverage that hides imperfections but doesn’t look heavy. I’m also a fan of the Curtis Collection Naked Glow CC Cream for those days you don’t want to have much makeup on but still want your skin to look fresh. If I want my makeup to last the day, I use MAC Studio Careblend Pressed over the top.

Bronzing and illuminating: If I had to choose one beauty product that was the only thing I could ever wear – it would be Bobbi Brown’s Shimmer Brick Compact. It is my holy grail of beauty products. Add this to the top of your cheeks and tip of your nose – and your face gets an instant lift. I apply it using a brush by Elizabeth Arden.

I’ve recently also just started using the Maybelline V-Neck Duo Stick to give some shading and highlights to the face. Bronzer, I’m using the Estée Lauder Bronze Goddess applied with a Becca brush (another product that is all time.) For blush, I’m actually using an oldie but a goodie – The Body Shop’s Lip and Cheek Dome. So easy and travel-friendly.

Eyes: I’m a little devo as I’m about to come to the end of this – but I use the Bobbi Brown Eye Opening Mascara every day. It’s a real eye opener (dad joke). I then add a touch of the Marc Jacobs Fineliner Ultra-Skinny Gel Eye Crayon from Sephora. LOVE! I don’t wear eyeshadow very much, but when I do – I use a palette by Chanel called Les 4 Ombres. Brows are tamed by Benefit’s Gimme Brow or It Cosmetics Brow Power Super Skinny.

FRAGRANCE

So admission here – I have quite expensive taste when it comes to fragrance. I tend to go for the niche scents that have a higher price but are so totally worth it (in my opinion). Just smell any of these and you will see what I mean. On repeat, I have Atelier Cologne Jasmin Angelique, Lubin Black Jade, Elle L’aime Lolita Lempicka, Armani Prive, L’Artisan Parfumeur Premier Figuier, Portraits Penhaligon’s The Revenge of Lady Blanche, Jadis by Ne’Emah, and Lalique Living.

SKIN

Because I have to continually trial different skincare products for my job, I tend to flit between different brands a little bit. But some stand out products that I will forever come back to are:

Dermalogica Pure Light (makes me positively glowing)

La Mer The Moisturising Soft Lotion (can’t get enough of its luxurious feel on my skin)

Sun Bum Face Stick (a beach-goer’s essential)

Environ AVST Cleansing Lotion (love the anti-ageing benefits in Environ’s products)

Antipodes Hallelujah Lime and Patchouli Cleanser (the smell is heavenly!)

Dr. LeWinn’s Line Smoothing Complex High Potency Treatment Mask (I do this before I go out and my skin doesn’t even need foundation – it shines).

NeoStrata Illuminating Serum (I did a three month trial of this product, and the difference to my skin was amazing)

Philips VisaPure Essential Facial Cleansing Device (gives a deep clean without breaking the skin)

Ultraceuticals SunActive SPF50+ Face Cream (keeping that ageing and cancer at bay, hey!)

HAIR

Last but not least is hair. My true secret when it comes to keeping my hair in tiptop shape is getting a bhave Smoothe Treatment every six months. This seriously tames it and makes such a huge difference without giving me flat hair. I’m also keen to try out Olaplex as I heard it does great things to the health of your hair. Other products I use include the bhave blonde bombshell shampoo, Oribe Shampoo and Conditioner, John Frieda Colour Refreshing Toner, De Lorenzo Nova Fusion Colour Care Shampoo Silver, David Mallett Volume Powder, KMS Add Volume Texture Creme, Toni & Guy Rough Texturiser, Cloud Nine straightener, and ghd Wave Wand.

 – If there was ever a beauty stash to raid, this would be the one! Make sure you check out Husskie for all your inspiration, you’ll have all the #instafeels!
